PSG - Production Steering Group

Henrik, Bengt, Timothy, Jens and sitting Pontus and Adam. Joakim was not present.

The right item, at the right time, at the right quality!

May we introduce PSG?
Our Production Steering Group, which consists of Henrik Kopp, Bengt Lundblad, Timothy Enander, Jens Björk, Pontus Eriksson, Adam Ahlström and Joakim Glans, representing the departments of planning, bending, welding, assembly, production technology and warehousing.

You can tell by the name, but what does the group do more specifically?
To be able to make quick changes and minor corrections in our production and to share information so that everyone has an overall overview, a coordination group was needed that can convey and collect the needs of the various departments right now and in the slightly longer term. A group that disseminates information, distributes tasks and drives the business forward through continuous improvements and quality follow-up.

PSG has so-called Drive meetings every two weeks and work meetings in the weeks in between and for 10 minutes every afternoon a brief review is made of how the day has been. Then we go through what needs to be done tomorrow or in the days ahead to be able to deliver on time. Do staff, tasks or something else need to be redistributed, is there a risk of material shortages, something special that needs attention, are the morning's preparations ready and do sales, customers or suppliers need to be informed for some reason?

What is happening right now?
Right now, various improvements are underway in how we manufacture our products, in itself a constant work in progress, but now there are some specific products that are relevant to get specific places, so-called production cells, in our manufacturing process.

In addition, there is a rearrangement of some pallet racks and storage areas to be moved to adapt the business to our expanded manufacturing area.

We thank PSG for a little insight into your daily work. An important work that is carried out every day here at Alf Pettersson AB in Alingsås in order for us to be able to deliver the right article at the right time to our customers.

- Keep up the good work!

"MR in Arboga"

It is a cold morning in February when we get out of the car at MR's parking lot. On the red and white facade is not only the sign for "MR Arbogavagnar AB", close by is also a HIAB sign... more about this later...

We walk in through the front door, and are greeted by a warm and welcoming entrance and office space. We turn right through the next door and enter the company's production facility. There is not only the smell of petroleum and lubricants, but also full activity among all the trucks. Niklas Jarmelid, CEO of MR, meets us with his handshake in full swing.

Behind Niklas on the construction sites are several more or less finished trucks. - "Right now we are full, we have nine sites to build on and do everything on site here, including registration and inspection," he says. "Hydraulics and painting are also in the building, but in the form of separate operations, which makes the process very smooth, as neither we nor the trucks need to leave the area".

Just behind Niklas, his long-time colleague Mikael "Miche" Adamsson comes up to greet us. You could say that these two gentlemen are real veterans in the industry. They have both worked at MR for 15 and 20 years respectively, but have been in the business for much longer than that. Niklas owned and worked with his own haulage company before taking over MR after his father and grandfather who started it in the 1960s. Miche came from the trailer industry where he has worked most of his working life.

MR currently has 20 employees, of which 3 in the office and the remaining 17 in production, and the company had a turnover of almost SEK 30 million in 2023. "Right now we have full capacity until the holidays and we usually get about 80 - 100 cars a year," says Niklas as we walk between the trucks.

We stop at the bottom of the production line, by an old blue-red tanker trailer. -"This is actually one of Jan-Krister 's* old constructions. We have renovated it for a few weeks for a customer here from Arboga, so now it should be able to roll for a few more years." says Miche and smiles.

MR has a long history with us at Alf Pettersson AB. Already at the time when we packed products in the trunk of our own car and traveled with a printed map to the customer. Together we have developed many prototypes and products over the years.

Those who are attentive can find clear traces on alfpettersson.com - all articles on the website whose article number begins with "K10507-" have at some point been developed together with Miche and Niklas at MR. They are also articles that Lasse at MR's warehouse still orders regularly from us.

* Jan-Krister Johansson, now CEO of Alf Pettersson AB.

We continue our tour and can't help but notice the large number of HIAB cranes installed. "Today, about 90% of the trucks are ordered through Cargotec/HIAB* " says Niklas and adds"...above all, it is the hooklifts and crane trucks that we build and now in recent years it is usually Scania Komplett that goes through us."

The cooperation between Cargotec and MR started many years ago. Miche tells us that he "...had a contact at Cargotec and that's probably why we got our first order from them... and since then it's just become more and more." he laughs.

The tour continues on the outside and just then a crane truck backs out of one of the gates and Miche says: "He came in earlier today and had trouble with his crane, we are really busy, but think it is important to protect all our customers, large and small! If he's happy, I'mhappy". So there went another satisfied customer out of MR's plant in Arboga.

* Hence the HIAB façade sign we mentioned earlier.

And speaking of satisfied customers, MR in Arboga is one of the many satisfied customers of Alf Pettersson AB. "You deliver good quality and manufacture products that work." Niklas interjects.

Since both Niklas and Miche share an interest in nature - as hunters and anglers - they try to give each other a day now and then to recharge their batteries in the forest.

Niklas breeds West Siberian and East Siberian Lajka and Jämthundar - versatile hunting dogs, but elk hunting is particularly close to Niklas' heart. Miche, on the other hand, is happy with smaller game, namely pike perch, pike or perch. Both appreciate being in the forest and countryside as often as possible.

From left: Niklas, Miche and Alf Petterssons AB's salesman Eivaz.

We end our tour with a cup of coffee in the lunch room where we hear many stories and anecdotes from the past that we can't fit into this article. We continue to collect memories and funny stories as our collaboration progresses, so we will have the opportunity to return to Nicklas and Miche at MR in a while.

Thank you for visiting Miche and Niklas!

Roland and Clara on communication

It has been repeatedly suggested by our colleagues that communication should be interviewed. After all, we have shared many stories about them, so why not... time to come forward ourselves.

We sat down, asked questions and wrote about each other, and here is the article about us, Roland and Clara, on communication....

Roland at the office
Roland's illustrations

Roland MacFie started at Alf Pettersson AB in the fall of 2019 after seeing an advertisement for a product manager with us. At the time, he was working with the family's book publishing company, which was not at all about trucks but mostly about children's and youth books.

During the first years at Alf Pettersson AB, he shared the product manager job with his colleague Alf. After a couple of instructive and educational years, the company's operations developed further, and he continued in a more communicative direction. As he had previous experience as a marketing manager in a healthcare company, the role was a perfect fit. Roland is also both creative and structured.

Roland has an overall role in which he largely uses his knowledge as a former product manager. Everything from taking care of the web, supporting the creation of marketing material and product information to flying drones or leading assortment council meetings.

Roland lives with his wife Susanne by Lake Gerdsken in Alingsås. They have three children together, Sarah, Josefine and Christoffer. In addition, three grandchildren have been added to the family, with whom he is more than happy to spend time.

For those who are curious about the name: he got it when he married Susanne, whose relatives in the MacFie clan emigrated to Sweden from Scotland in 1823.

In addition to spending time with his family, he likes music and plays several musical instruments. It used to be a lot of 70s and 80s rock, but nowadays it's very varied. There are many playlists on Spotify, ranging from rock and house to classical. Roland is also a devil at drawing and has illustrated some 20 children's and youth books.

When it comes to the lunch box, well, Roland is not quite as creative as usual. His go-to is chicken gravy with pasta.

Clara Stamborg has returned to the woods in Maryd outside Alingsås after a number of years living in Alingsås, Trollhättan and York. In Maryd, she is currently planning her and her partner Robin's future house, which will also accommodate Echo, her Flatcoated retriever.

As a trained adventure coach and active/old OCR* runner, it is perhaps not surprising that Clara enjoys being out in the woods and fields, preferably running with Echo and a running buddy. If it's not in the forests of Maryd, Clara prefers the Scottish Highlands, the Austrian Alps or the Swedish mountains. Clara has competed in OCR at the elite level and placed 8th at the World Cup 2022 and 13th at the Spartan World Championship 2018 and a comeback in the coming years is not entirely excluded...

Clara has been employed at Alf Pettersson AB since 2015, then she worked with sales, produced marketing material and took care of our website.

So many of our old customers have chatted with Clara on the phone or by email when they have placed their orders or needed information about our products. Nowadays, Clara's job is purely information and communication work with a focus on marketing and sales.

What did Clara do in Trollhättan? Well, she attended a higher education program in Digital Media, where part of the program was located in York, England. A city that has a special place in Clara's heart.

When she sinks into the couch at home, it is a good movie or computer and TV games that are on the agenda.

Clara's hidden talent is that she is an expert at filleting fish, since her youth in the fish truck.

In the lunch box that has been chosen in advance, it will be Anamma Vegofar sauce with pasta.

What do we actually do?

So, what do we do in communication, because it is a joint effort, with all that communication entails. With a bit of support from design, who know a lot about products, we actually create everything you see and touch.

With my sales background and Roland's product knowledge, together we have shaped the communication both externally and internally, but also developed the product information.

A typical day with us can include 3D rendering of products on a truck, writing newsletters, maintaining the website and creating brochures for the sales staff. Everything that should be visible and tell about Alf Pettersson AB is carefully treated by us at communication to be shared internally or externally.

*OCR = Obstacle Course Racing is a mixture of running and obstacles.

Colleagues' favourite spots

Here's the full list of highlights from some of our colleagues, with the addition of 3 tips for summer truck events. We hope you enjoy your own favorite place but also discover something new!

1. Marstrand - What would holiday tips be without the west coast, or the best coast as Veronika would say. When she walks around among the boats and houses and eats ice cream - that's when she really has summer. Whoever you are, sun worshipper or adventurous, there is something for you, read more on their website: Here.

2. Northern Öland - It's hard to beat when the sun sets on the horizon and your butt is placed on the pebbles of the Neptune fields. Patrick's favorite is Northern Öland, but if you want to discover the whole island, you can take the bike, smoothly and close to nature. Read more about what's happening on Öland's website: Here.
- Patrik - System

3. Åre - Are you more adventurous? Clara wants to recommend trail running, down-hill cycling, SUP and hiking in beautiful Åre and the surrounding area. Walk over Ridvadet, Sweden's longest natural ford, at just over 500m, cool, right? When you feel satisfied, take a dip in the cold river and top it off with a waffle. Read more on their website: Here.
- Clara - Communication and development

4. Tylösand - Near Halmstad you will find Tylösand, sunny, bathing and sandy destination. More precisely 4km of sand and swimming. Benthe likes to go to "after beach", eat good food and enjoy beautiful sunsets. Read more on Halmstad's website: Here.
- Benthe - Purchasing

5. Alingsås - Alingsås is a small, cozy wooden town where you can have coffee, hike in nature and swim in the various lakes near the city center. The kids can go tire walking with the Secret Club while you eat well at one of the many outdoor restaurants. (We are not at all biased) It's not just "JK" who wants to tell you about our beautiful city. Read more about Alingsås and the Potato Festival on West Sweden's website: Here.

Ida and Helena in Economics

Today we meet Helena and Ida from our finance department. They keep track of both our customers' and our own finances. A prerequisite for companies to be able to expand as Alf Pettersson AB has done in recent years.

Ida Falkman Hermansson, who is our new financial manager, lives in a red house with white knots in Östadkulle, just outside Alingsås. The house is located on a small hill in the middle of a birch grove and Ida, her husband Jörgen and their children have lived there since the children were small.

Apart from gardening and cultivation, leisure interests include traveling and good food in the company of good friends. With the Gothenburg archipelago as one of their favorite destinations, especially in summer, they enjoy the sea, nature and good food together with good friends.

Ida came to Alf Pettersson AB in January this year and has a solid background in the economic area and has worked in various industries, including banking and real estate. Most recently in a wood processing company in Alingsås.

The most fun part of Ida's job, if you believe Ida herself, is to see the whole picture of the company and to keep the finances in order and to develop and streamline the financial processes.

What we colleagues didn't know before is that Ida is a master at kubb and she will prove it at Alf Petterson AB's summer event on June 21.

Ida Falkman Hermansson

Ida's colleague Helena, lives in a newly renovated turn-of-the-century inspired villa in Alingsås with her husband Tony and their two teenagers, aged 16 and 19.

In addition to managing Alf Pettersson AB's administrative tasks, she has also managed various renovation projects at home. She has also found a newfound interest in gardening and cultivation and here at work there are many people who share her passion and who offer their cultivation tips.

Like Ida, Helena loves to travel. When asked about her dream destination, the answer is that it changes all the time, but right now a month-long tour of South America would be the most exciting - "Then Italy is always a favorite regardless of the time of year," Helena adds. Skiing in the Alps, hiking in Cinque Terre or just some food, a glass of wine on a lovely terrace overlooking the Mediterranean, it works with.

Another newfound interest is golf and she took a green card this fall and is now working on her handicap for the company's golf competition AP Masters. More about this competition after the vacation period.

Helena is an experienced economist and administrator who has been part of Alf Pettersson AB for over three years. She comes most recently from a company in the textile industry where she helped customers find the right products but also worked with public procurement, finance and various administrative tasks. She likes structure and orderliness.

When Helena considered changing jobs a few years ago, her plan was to find a company with good values and where her knowledge and experience could fit in, and the opportunity arose at Alf Pettersson AB. Helena thinks it is important to have fun at work. - "Together with your colleagues you become like a big family and it is important that you enjoyyourself". She found what she was looking for at Alf Pettersson AB.

Both Ida and Helena are committed to their roles at work and enjoy being part of a growing company, and the rest of us can see that they are a valuable asset to the company.

The girls were of course asked which dish they would have in their lunch box in the future if they had to choose only one dish. For Ida, it would be taco salad with mango chutney chicken and for Helen it would probably be pasta salad. - "Well, how boring that sounds...",Helena concludes the interview.

Boring or not, we can guarantee that these two girls are not bored at work.

Thank you for the interview and we are happy to have you in our team. We look forward to continued joint achievements in the future.

PS. For those of you who wonder where Karin Axelsson, our former CFO has gone, she is in the background but has chosen to reduce her involvement in the company now that Ida has taken over.

Your first day at your new job

- "Welcome to us" says Jan-Krister, with a warm smile.
You have just arrived for your first day at your new job at Alf Pettersson AB. You feel excited this early morning and it didn't take long to get here, so it was an easy thing to start the day at 07.30.

Together with Jan-Krister, you join the morning meeting that takes place via Teams. Here you meet Anders, Eivaz, Jesper, Markus and Mattias, our sales team who have already logged in and chat until everyone is in place. Your new colleagues, who work in different areas of responsibility, are a lovely and varied group that suits you perfectly. When you introduce yourself, you feel confident and easily answer the curious questions your colleagues ask.

The morning meeting discusses sales strategies, planning and the day's agenda. It is clear that everyone is highly motivated to drive the company forward in terms of planning, customer issues and goals.

The feeling you get is welcoming and cordial. With this team, we will reach new goals together.

It's 08.30. Time for breakfast with the rest of your colleagues.
There is a cheerful greeting and you are greeted by a wonderful mix of employees with different professional roles.

After breakfast, another meeting where you go through your tasks. There's a lot to learn, but it suits you because you're eager to get started. Your shared responsibility means that you will receive incoming orders by phone and email. You understand the importance of demonstrating your ability to work both independently and in a team. This gives you an opportunity to get to know the company and gain insight into our products. With your administrative skills and accuracy, you are well equipped for the task.

Like your colleagues, your work will focus on processing and taking care of customers. You will be an important part of the team that works on designing sales plans based on our strategic objectives. With your sales experience, technical knowledge and mathematical understanding, you will bring a lot to the table.

You know we were looking for someone with experience in a similar manufacturing company or industry. We also strive for gender balance and look favorably on female applicants. Good language skills in addition to Swedish were also an advantage when you applied for the position. Even if you did not meet all the criteria, you still felt that your qualifications were strong enough and suitable for the position.

You wonder what your ambition as a colleague and employee will be. The answer you get from Jan-Krister is that you should be a team player, a colleague on the same level as the rest of the sales team.

Jan-Krister and you continue to talk about the future, that we as a company want to move forward and develop. This includes working with modern sales and using the digital channels. You feel that in terms of interest it will suit you well. You take the opportunity to ask what it was that made you chosen? Jan-Krister answers: "It is your personality we chose, you have the abilities we want in our employees. You are social, happy, forward, humble, enterprising with the right attitude and approach".

Soon the meeting with Jan-Krister is over. It's 11 am and time for coffee. You walk away and you think: "I'm glad I applied and was offered the job! This will be fun, to be part of this team! A great team, for sure!"

Now the job can be yours!

Environmental training at Renova

In our long-term sustainability work, which has been going on for a number of years, we try to work more sustainably and "do our bit".

We do this by creating the best possible working environment for ourselves, but also by intensifying our efforts to minimize our climate footprint.

Over the past few weeks, everyone at the company has attended Renova Miljö AB's environmental school in Gothenburg. We have gained insight and in-depth knowledge in environmentally smart recycling and gained knowledge about what happens to our waste and how we can become more climate-smart and save on natural resources.

- "The environmental school has an educational benefit and better understanding of the participants through the overall experience that, among other things, the visit to the plant in Sävenäs provides". - says Veronika Alvdén Bona, HR Manager at Alf Pettersson AB.

In the future, we will, to the extent we can influence, work more tangibly with Agenda 2030 which consists of the 17 global sustainable development goals that aim to eradicate poverty, stop climate change and create peaceful and secure societies.

We continue our work and will return in the future with more posts about our sustainability work.

What are the ongoing sustainability efforts in your workplace?

Follow-up: Who are the sellers? Eivaz and Anders

Eivaz is the colleague who, in addition to Alf and Jan-Krister, has worked the longest at Alf Pettersson AB. When he is not at work and brightening the days of his colleagues and customers, he is on the football field in his trainer's jacket.

When we sat down after our morning coffee, we started talking about football and Eivaz's knee surgery - but we'll come back to that later.

In the early days when Alf Pettersson AB was still in Vårgårda and consisted of two employees, Eivaz was offered a full-time job. The offer came from an acquaintance in football, specifically Jan-Krister. At the time, Alf Pettersson AB's premises were 288 square meters, they had a pallet truck, no pallet racks and everything was more or less a bit of a mess. Eivaz's job turned out to be versatile. He worked in the warehouse but also in sales, purchasing and invoicing. "In those days, we faxed mailings, 10 at a time, we couldn't type in more fax numbers".

Previously, he had worked in a variety of jobs such as a delivery tester at Autoliv, a resource at school and collecting sports results. What he learned early on was that he enjoyed working with people. So around 2010, when Alf Pettersson AB moved to Alingsås, Eivaz got a pure sales service and then the company had about 12 employees.

But, now back to football, an important input. Eivaz played a lot of football, as long as his body lasted, from Division 6 to Division 3. When he could no longer play because of his injuries - well, he started refereeing matches and coaching young people instead. He has been involved in refereeing at Gothia Cup in Gothenburg - but does not referee so often anymore - now his focus is on training Pojkar 09, where one of his sons plays.

Eivaz lives in Vårgårda with his wife Johanna and their two sons. Together with his parents, he arrived in Vårgårda in 1989 and should by now be considered a true Vårgårda resident?

When asked what he likes most about his job - he lights up and quickly answers "The feeling when the customer is satisfied". Helping and making sure everyone is happy is Eivaz's strength. The customer is always in focus and he enjoys developing cooperation with the company's key customers.

Eivaz's hidden talent is that he can eat sunflower seeds in his sleep and hold his breath for a very long time underwater. "The lungs and heart of an endurance athlete" he has been told several times, but in his younger days.

If he could only choose one dish to have in his lunchbox for the rest of his life, it would "easily" be Persian rice served with grilled shish kebab and grilled entrecote.

Eivaz Varghaei

While Eivaz has shared his entire life story (which is about as long as his time at Alf Pettersson AB), Anders has sat next to him and listened with interest. Anders is our latest addition in sales, so this pair complements each other really well.

Anders Larsson

Anders has grown up on a stud farm, that is, horse breeding and breeding and more specifically, of Shetland ponies. Today he no longer lives on the farm, but still in the same area in Västra Bodarne, just outside Alingsås.

There he spends time with his partner Andrea and their two children, frolicking in the garden or engrossed on the sofa in front of a football match with his favorite team Johor Darul Takzim... and for those of us who don't know, he adds that Manchester City is actually his favorite team. Much to the chagrin of Eivaz, who has Liverpool close to his heart. An important note is that Anders started following City already in 2007, when Svennis took over as coach.

Growing up in the countryside, Anders' keen interest in animals is not surprising at all. When Anders and his twin brother Marcus came home from childhood vacations, their foreheads were pale from all the scouting on the ground - for insects - that they could add to their collection. Which eventually contained around 800 species.
When he wasn't rooting around in bushes, he played racket sports - preferably table tennis and tennis, but also some badminton and nowadays also padel.

Anders studied the science program at high school and economics at university and landed his first job as an inside salesman, not an economist. He stayed in that job for 16 years before he started looking for new challenges - specifically Alf Pettersson AB.

Today he has been working with us for just over a year, also as an inside salesman. He enjoys it very much and looks forward to coming to work and meeting his colleagues every day. And we must admit that we like him too. In the near future, Anders will join the Volvo team, which includes Jesper and Markus (as you could read about in our previous article).

In addition to all the knowledge Anders has about animals, nature and now also truck bodies, we can add that one of his hidden talents is juggling. We look forward to proof of this at the upcoming summer party.

When we asked him which lunchbox he would like to have for the rest of his life, he smiled and replied "double cheese from the donk - you have to have your guilty pleasures?". An obvious choice of lunchbox, we think.

Thank you Eivaz and Anders for a nice conversation!
